Hypnotherapy
How to choose a therapist?
The most important issue in hypnotherapy is to feel comfortable with your therapist. Uneasyness and stress are real blockers to success in any changework method, but are particularly important in hypnotherapy. Your ability to go into an effective trance is based on your ability to relax and trust the process. Any inhibitions to your trust will also inhibit the effectiveness of the trancework. This means your relationship with your therapist is your prime concern in choosing the right therapist (and why we always offer a free consultation and taster session).
Sadly you can't always rely on certification to ensure either a proficient therapist (something we have experienced all too frequently) or you having a good relationship with your therapist. The old saying 'people like people like themselves' is largely true for this type of relationship. The best thing you can do is make sure you are prepared to find out if they can meet your needs. You can do this by knowing what it is you want.
Questions for YOU to answer:
What do you want to achieve with hypnotherapy? How will you know you have achieved it? (what is your evidence for success?)What's important to you about a therapist?(standards, values and personality)What's important to you about your therapy/coaching?Questions to answer about your therapist:
Do you feel comfortable with them?Do you trust them to help you with your goals? Will they offer a free taster session to ensure that they can the results you want?Do they seem to be flexible enough to cope with your individual characteristics? In our experience there are four factors that make a hypnotherapy intervention successful:
1) In order for hypnosis to occur, the subject must agree to be hypnotised.
2) There must be communication between the Hypnotherapist and the client.
3) The client must be free from and fear about the hypnotic process or what is going to take place.
4) The client must be free from reluctance, trusting the therapist and their intentions.
The goal of the therapist during a consultation is to determine if they can help create those conditions. If you cannot fulfil these criteria with your chosen therapist it is unlikely that you will get the results you want.
